Stories that come down through the centuries. A force that cannot be tamed.

The sea that surrounds us. The taker of land and lives. With us always.

We are delighted to have been received support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a new project designed to both capture local people’s memories and create new theatre productions.

In partnership with BBC Radio Tees and the Creative Lives charity, we will be recording experiences and reminiscences reflecting life in a coastal town in the twenty-first  century. In particular, we want to celebrate the town’s proud record of supporting an RNLI lifeboat. Extracts from the recordings will be broadcast on the BBC and all the interviews will become part of Whitby Museum’s sound archive.

We will be working with writers, directors and performers to use the recordings, old and new, to produce a series of new productions from May onwards.

The award has been made possible by

the players of the National Lottery.
